Job Summary: As a valued member of the marketing team, the business writer will manage a variety of functions which are important to the marketing department, the firm and its affiliated companies.

Major responsibilities of the position include:

Proposals
• Meet with appropriate personnel to obtain necessary information
• Research prospects, as needed
• In InDesign, write, assemble and edit proposals
• Create unique and/or prospect-focused content in response to individual situations/requests
• Manage information databases used for proposal creation
• Manage the majority of the proposal process

Newsletters
• Stay apprised of emerging accounting-related topics
• Research timely and relevant accounting-related or industry-specific news
• Compose articles on various topics for the print and electronic newsletters
• Synthesize complex issues and translate industry lingo/jargon into easily understood articles
• Assign article topics to various writers and manage submissions
• Proofread and edit content written by others for print and electronic newsletters
• Manage content calendar and deadlines

Media Relations
• Compose and distribute press releases to applicable media outlets
• Coordinate with and/or pitch stories to appropriate media outlets
• Arrange and attend meetings with reporters, as requested

Personnel Relations
• Coordinate with newly hired and/or promoted team members to update or create biographies

Website
• Make minor content updates, as needed (HTML knowledge not required)
• Create new content for web pages, as needed

Printed Materials
• Make content changes to printed marketing collateral (brochures, flyers, etc.)
• Create content for new marketing collateral, as needed

Social Media
• Work with digital coordinator to create and manage content calendar
• Create engaging social media posts to cover a variety of topics

Awards
• Write, review and/or edit content for nominations and entry submissions, as needed
• Write content for letters to award winners, as needed

Events (Internal and External)
• Write content for event promotion (invitations, brochures, follow-up letters, etc.)

Mailings
• Write content for letters to clients, friends of the firm and business prospects
• Help marketing assistant with large mass mailings, as needed

Marketing Reports
• Review marketing matters reports for proposals, newsletters, media mentions, etc.

General Tasks
• Answer phone calls and assist callers, as needed
• Fulfill general marketing requests, as needed
• Assist with major marketing department projects or events, as needed

Qualifications
• Degree in journalism, English, public relations, business or related field required
• Three to five years of professional writing experience (education and/or verifiable skills may be substituted for up to one year of experience)
• Previous experience in professional services (accounting, legal, etc.), business writing, marketing or public relations desired
• Strong attention to detail and deadline driven; must be able to multi-task and excel in a diverse and fast-paced atmosphere with short timelines and multiple priorities
• Knowledge of AP style desired
• Skillsets:
o Excellent: English; grammar; research; verbal and written communication; strategic thinking
o Basic: math, technology (computer, printer/copier, phone, etc.)
• Experience working with executive management
• Ability to manage people and processes in order to meet established deadlines
• Ability to use various computer programs, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint; InDesign a plus
• Ability to learn new software packages, as necessary, including the firm’s practice management system

Work Environment and Time Requirements
• Reports To: Marketing Supervisors
• Responsible For: Internal and external marketing communications and business development activities
• Works Closely With: Marketing/business development team members

Schedule
• Full-time, exempt position
• Occasional extended working hours required for variations in work volume
