July 26, 2018 (Forest Hill, MD) - The Association for Accounting Marketing (AAM) has announced the results of its 2018 AAM Career and Compensation Survey, which was designed to provide industry professionals and firms with critical information regarding salary trends. The publication also includes data that marketers can use to navigate their careers in the accounting industry.

This initiative, conducted earlier this year through a collaboration with Capstone Marketing and CPA Trendlines, studied compensation trends of accounting marketers. Participating firms were asked to submit compensation data for their marketing and business development teams. The data was then analyzed against marketer-specific data provided by individual marketing professionals to ensure accurate, unbiased compensation data.

According to Jean Caragher, founder and president of Capstone Marketing, this year's survey, which has been conducted regularly since 2013, included additional questions in an attempt to gain an even greater understanding of compensation and career fulfillment among those in the accounting marketing profession.

"This survey is more than the salary and benefits numbers," said Caragher. "You need to consider using the information in the survey to carve out your career in your firm and in accounting marketing."

  • The report revealed some interesting findings, including:
  • The average base salary of accounting marketers (plus variable compensation) is estimated to be $95,514.
  • 30% of respondents indicate their firms will be giving salary raises between 1% and 3% this year.
  • The average marketing budget makes up 2.26% of a firm's net revenue.
  • The average number of people primarily dedicated to marketing and/or business development for firms with 100 or fewer employees is 1.5% or less.
  • 24% of respondents say they are considering looking for another job in the next 18 months.
  • 46% of respondents report that they are optimistic about what the next year has in store for them at their firm.

"Our participating firms were diverse in their size and scope, providing marketers with data points to benchmark their current compensation against," said Lauren Clemmer, AAM's executive director. "We encourage AAM's members and all accounting marketers to take advantage of this critically important resource."

The full report unveils the survey results in its entirety and is available for purchase at a member rate of $150 and a non-member rate of $300 at AAM Career and Compensation Survey. An executive summary is available for download at no cost.
